About us

Our mission is to empower you as TEFL teachers and to inspire you to step into your classrooms both in-class and online, ready to teach with purpose and preparedness and to love every moment of it!

A WORD FROM OUR FOUNDER AND DIRECTOR:

Over the past 8 years, I have personally trained, evaluated and successfully graduated over 2700 teachers to teach English in foreign classrooms both in-class and online, and believe me, your choice to teach English (TEFL) deserves the utmost praise!

It is a noble choice, a choice full of honour and merit, a choice that will tangibly and meaningfully change lives on a global scale through the language of English.

Have you ever wondered how to teach English? Or what we, as teachers, get paid to do?

Here are some real truths I learned along the way…

Whilst the academic side of what I had learned when I was doing my TEFL, TESOL, ESL courses, (gaining my own certifications to teach English) is vital and supportive and referential, I quickly realized that that it was, in fact, just that: academic. These simply gave me the “what” to do in my teaching career, the theoretical best options.

The biggest lesson I learned about the stuff that really matters as a TEFL teacher is knowing the “why” first! In other words, “why am I actually here… in this classroom/in front of these students??

Through a brutal process of self-evaluation and refining [or as it is referred to in the classics, ‘reflective teaching’] after every class, I have developed a unique set of skills that takes away all the noise that can often clutter the “how” and the “what”.

The real power of teaching English lies in the detail of the teaching steps but your legendary teaching status that separates you from other teachers of English, lies in your ability to adjust these steps to the ever-changing classroom dynamics in today’s lesson in this classroom, simply because every classroom is different… – whether in-class or online!

Our Video guided instructional method will do exactly that for you – to give you the power to be a rock star teacher!

With countless hours of in-class teaching and over 6000 hours of online teaching and Training, I commit to giving you my very best – the best of my experience, the best of my knowledge, and personalised assistance where necessary.

After spending over 20 years in corporate executive leadership, I started my TEFL career as a volunteer teacher across Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam. This was a most humbling and rewarding experience…one that I will never forget.

It gave me the opportunity to travel, explore and experience brand new cultures, lifestyles, food, landscapes and to meet the most interesting students and people in a totally immersive way!

Even more importantly, I honed my teaching skills, and personally figured out what actually works in a TEFL classroom, and that which vindicated my true purpose i.e., what it actually means to be a TEFL/TESOL teacher.

I was previously the Academic Head of StudiesESL Program Manager and TEFL, TESOL Teacher Trainer at a private American-owned ESL teacher-training college based in Thailand (4 years), and the (only South African) head teacher trainer at a large Chinese-based online education company, among other teaching and training roles.

I currently teach ESP (English for Specific Purposes) at The Beijing College of Politics and Law in China, an element that is  woven into our TEFL 140 International course.

Since 2018, I’ve brought together a team of experienced and passionate teachers, each well-qualified in their own right. Together, at TEFL140 International, we offer you our collective TEFL, ESL and teacher-training experience of over 15 years. We welcome you and we’re delighted and privileged to have the opportunity to work with you!

To join the ranks of our thousands of successful teachers, sign up today, we look forward to being a part of your journey.

Yours sincerely

Accreditation

If you’re going to spend the money, time, and effort on a course you want to be sure that the qualification is going to be recognized internationally – and this is where accreditation is important.
Accreditation is your assurance that the course has been externally assessed and meets the rigorous guidelines set by reputable accrediting bodies.
In this regard, TEFL 140 International is Licenced and Registered by
The Education Council for Course Accreditation [TECCA] United Kingdom  (www.tecca.org) Licence Number: T140INT0759

Taking a TEFL course you’ve found for $19 on a discount website might seem an attractive and cost-effective option at first glance, but if it’s not properly accredited then employers may not recognise it. At the end of the day, you tend to get what you pay for!

While it’s true that there are a lot of countries out there that require a degree for visa reasons there are options for you if you don’t have one, but thankfully there are still great options out there!

Let’s take a look at them.

Europe

Poland, Greece, Spain, Italy

Central and South America

Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Nicaragua, Peru, Mexico, and Uruguay.

Cambodia

If you’ve taken a look at the TEFL jobs out there then you’ll probably have noticed the abundance of positions in Asia. Unfortunately, the opportunities to TEFL without a degree in Asia are minimal but there is one great option open to you – Cambodia!

Considering the high demand for teachers, incredible culture, and the opportunities for travel across Southeast Asia, it’s not hard to see why Cambodia is an attractive option for EFL teachers. One of our course graduates Jenna speaks about falling in love with the country, saying it’s like no other place on earth, full of warm people and a huge demand for English teachers.

The advantage of the TEFL industry is the sheer demand for learning English. And demand for learning English means a constant supply of English teaching opportunities, including plenty for newly qualified TEFL teachers.

Faq

Anybody (Native and Non-Native Speakers of English) can study for TEFL/TESOL certification, from any part of the world, because courses are available for both in-class and online.

Finding a job is about proving your value in the eyes of your potential employer. You want them to look at you (or your application form) and think ‘yes, this is somebody I want to work for me.’ Getting TEFL / TESOL certification helps with this issue in terms of job accessibility (where you can work) and job suitability (in the eyes of your employer). Thus, concerning job accessibility, the benefits of TEFL certification include the following:

– Commitment of Teacher: Obtaining TEFL/TESOL certification costs time and money, thus potential employers will see you as more committed to teaching if you have willingly undertaken a teaching course. Hiring someone (especially when hiring from overseas) is a big commitment and an employer will want to be hiring an employee who is equally committed.

– Job Accessibility: Whilst employers will consider applicants on an individual basis, many will have their black and white rules for hiring which could include the stipulation that a successful candidate must hold some form of teaching qualification. By completing a TEFL/TESOL certification, you immediately widen the pool of jobs available to you.

So, you’re thinking about getting TEFL qualified and embarking on the adventure of a lifetime? You’re in the right place!

We’ve been helping people just like you find work teaching English across the globe since 2012. After training over 2700 teachers we know how crucial it is to be as prepared as possible from the start.

The TEFL industry is huge; there are hundreds of thousands of jobs out there and there are all sorts of different courses and course providers claiming to offer what you need to secure one of them. Even just getting started can seem a bit overwhelming, which is why we’ve put together this guide, so you can find out what you really need to know.

Most employers look for a minimum of a 120-hour qualification, so if you want to be in the best position for finding work then our 140 Hour TEFL Certificate does a whole lot more than that! If you’ve never taught English before, then you will be pleased to know that our 140 Hour TEFL Certificate not only includes TEFL Teaching methodologies for both In-class and Online, but will also provide you with highly Specialised areas of expertise like Grammar and How to teach Grammar in a foreign classroom, Teaching Business English and Teaching ESL Math and Science, all of which is very achievable, opens up many more opportunities and boosts you CV/Resume  for your job search and potentially better paying  jobs!

Important:

  1. There is no time limit to complete our 140 Hour TEFL Course.
  2. There is no expiry date associated with our TEFL Course Certification.

In this industry we love an acronym. You might have come across a few already: TEFL, TESOL, ESL, TESL, CELTA, DETLA, to name a few. But what do they all mean?

Thankfully, many of these acronyms refer to the same thing – teaching English to English language learners. TEFL, TESOL, ESL, and TESL are often used interchangeably. You will learn more about this in our very first Chapter  – Orientation: An Introduction to Teaching English as a Foreign Language and/or Second language.

TEFL contracts can be both confusing and a little scary for first-time teachers and seasoned veterans alike. Knowing that you are protected and that the document you are signing actually contains what was agreed upon can be troublesome. TEFL contracts in many countries throughout the world are often written up in the local language and contract law can be quite confusing even if you do know what is in your contract. Find out what to look for in your contract as well as what to do to ensure you are protecting yourself from schools that may be less than scrupulous.

One of the most important things you can do is have your contract translated into English if it is not already. If it is already translated you will still want to take both the original language version as well as the English version to a professional translator who can check that they both say the same thing. Courtesy: ESL Job Exchange.com

How independent are you? This is something to consider as some employers offer more support than others. For example, it’s common in certain Asian countries for accommodation to be included in your contract and to get assistance with the visa process. If this kind of support is important to you then it can help narrow down the countries where you would seek work – and if it’s not it can open up some exciting places that may be off the beaten track and require a higher degree of independence!
